recovery resources

This is a list of everyone and everything that aided me in recovery from nonpurging bulimia, EDNOS, and orthorexia. The first half of the post is simply a hyperlinked list. The second half of the post is the same hyperlinked list, but with added descriptions for each resource so you can get an idea of what each resource is and how it might help you! Everything is hyperlinked, even if it doesn't look like it. Just click on the resource name ☺️ I'm not sure where the random underlines came from, but I'm working to fix them. Please bear with me!

Ask.fm:
This is a little known platform that is incredibly useful. You can ask anonymous questions to people who are also in recovery. I use ask.fm when I’m in a panic (because you’re asking real people question, the usually reply within a few hours) or need specific recovery advice - you can describe your specific circumstances and most people are really helpful, supportive, and sweet.

Recovery Resources with Descriptions

Next to Normal - Even if you don't like musical theater, give this a listen. It's an amazing pop rock musical that deals with how mental illness affects families.
Hunger Hormones and Binging in Anorexia Recovery on Reddit - An science-based, educational introduction to how hunger hormones work. It explains why eating regular meals and eating enough is immensely important and (believe it or not) really does prevent most binges.
"How Diets Hurt You (+ Help Capitalism)" by Melissa A. Fabello - If you're interested in social justice and have an ED, this is life-changing. Every time you chose to recover/eat/not hate yourself, you are smashing the toxic strains of capitalism.
"Forget Body Love: Where is the You-Are-More-Than-Your-Body Movement for Women?" by Kate Walford - Body neutrality is a game-changing concept. You don't have to love yourself, you don't have to hate yourself, you can just respect your self.
"You're Supposed to Eat, So Stop Eating the Smallest Amount Possible" by Caroline Dooner - Reading this made me cry because I knew it was true.
"The Eater’s Agreement" by Marc David - I have this printed out and in my recovery binder as a reminder.
"Overcoming Disordered Eating + Staying Vegan on Your Period" by Emily von Euw - One of my lovely vegan babes talks about their experience with disordered eating and regain health while eating vegan.
Quotes I've Collected - Quotes from my personal Tumblr that I love with my entire heart.

Books:
Hunger, Hope, and Healing: A Yoga Approach to Disordered Eating by Sarahjoy Marsh - If you like yoga, the concept of yoga, or are even remotely interested in holistic healing, PLEASE READ THIS BOOK. It's so, so worth it.
Shay Boddington's Newsletter, Video Series, and eBook - Shay has a YouTube channel as well. She was the person who really gave me the action steps and tools to begin recovering from nonpurging bulimia.

Podcasts:
Mind Body Musings with Maddy Moon - Maddy started this podcast when she first entered orthorexia recovery. Mind Body Musings is really neat because Maddy asks all of the same questions I had at the beginning of recovery!
The Model Health Show with Shawn Stevenson and Jade Harrell*** - This is a health and fitness podcast. Like every health and fitness company, there is a ridiculous emphasis on weight loss in their advertising and episode names. If you are underweight, struggle with restriction, or nutritional science and health and fitness is triggering, please do not listen to this podcast. I am a science nerd and hearing the nutritional science behind food and how it changes our body chemistry was actually incredibly helpful for me and helped me not binge. This podcast also places a big emphasis on the mental/emotional side of health and wellness and is very holistic.
The Recovery Warrior Show with Jessica Raymond - Hosted by a wonderfully kind woman, this podcast delves into eating disorder recovery as a general topic.
Simple Daily Practice Radio with Peggy Freeh - Peggy interviews all kinds of alternative healers, entrepreneurs, yoga practitioners, and more about their daily practices to cultivate wellness. I use this podcast to get self-care ideas!

Everyday Feminism - Another feminist eating disorder recovery site.
Recovery Warriors - Uplifting, useful, and powerful articles about ED recovery.
